they said we went to the dogs
when we let our minds race
down the side streets alleys
of what was proper town thinking

but they were still in flannel
with their high heels hidden
in a wood shed closet
under some saturday evening post

with the eyes and teeth drawn in
making devils out of statues
and other things the mind does
when left unattended for hours

while we were playing leap frog
and throwing black shinny sticks
for the hounds to chase and bring back
just so we could get our hands messy

before sunday dinner at dante's parsonage

Amazing what I get out of your poem when I put my mind on it (it unravels after studying, finding some word's translation etc.). The overall impression after the first read is always: intriguing! You are so rich in expression and meaning, every time it's a whole story (or several stories interconnected). Daunting ability!

Throw another stick! And don't look for the pictures with the eyepatches drawn in.

You know I would love to hold a book in my hands with etchings to go with these poems of yours.  I feel I have traveled half way across the United States on the back of a motorcycle sometimes reading these.  Really enjoyed this one DS.
