Who was it who held his mother's hand, as she tried to understand, why he had to go away?
It was me, muggins here, I was the one who felt obligated to stay.
Work my fingers to the bone
After he used to say
He'd never leave us on our own. It was me.

Who was the one who watched their life slip away
In pining
Stood in a field whilst the sun was shining, NOT
Making hay and who at the end of the day
Went home and collapsed in a heap
And still couldn't sleep
'Cause  he'd spent 12 hours counting the sheep.
It was me
Remember me?
And now my brother's coming home and you're throwing a party!

Well, forgive me for not putting on a silly hat
And reading out cracker jokes to my long-lost Auntie Pat
And I can't be up to late
If that's all the same to you
I've got to be up in the morning
Some of us have got work to do!
I want him to know how much he hurt us
To desert us in this way.
And, 'What are we having for dessert anyway?'

'Cause I say all this as just a way of saving face
With my father and my mother
But I don't really know how to hate
And I can't wait
To embrace my brother.

THE END...

Wonderful in the anticipation ... and wonderful in the ending!!

I think even Jesus smiles up there!!

You got that right, some seem lost and when they return the joy is overwhelming. It does not diminish the other's worth.
I bet the prodigal son will be wiser by now and appreciate the party ... (and come help his brother out in the fields the next morning!).

Enjoyed this much.

love

Simon,

There you go.  That's better.  Bloods thicker than water.

Enjoy the party.

Thanx Margherita & thanx Robert E.
I agree,
There are few things more important
Than family...

It's the things we do not like about people that makes them the individuals we love...good ending Simon
