Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

0 posted 2008-02-16 10:27 PM

Even ravens dream of summer, dripping in color
Confetti dreams of butterflies and flowers
Summer sun magically turning feathers to deep blue
Treasures pilfered and shining under roosting trees

Even ravens long for long nights, bright and warm
Midnight sun warming raven beaks, feeding chicks
Flying under blue skies, playing in wind currents
Catching the breeze and soaring for simple joy

Even ravens dream in color, erasing gray winter days
Whispering stories of ancient raven rituals
Laughing under fluffed up tucked-in wings
Looking from lofty heights at inattentive humans

And wonder if they are too busy to dream in color

...

Alison

Alison,

I kind of like the idea of pilfered treasures.  I’ve got to get me some of those trained Raven dudes.

Ravens are very intelligent, we had a pet raven when I was child. I think your poem captures the raven reality very well.

Had a raven once...we lived in New Mexico.
He LOVED beer!  Would get drunk and walk right off the side of the porch without ever opening up his wings and go ka-plunk! on the ground. He'd just lay there on his back, or side or breast - whatever position he hit in - for about 10 minutes the get up and walk under the house and I wouldn't see him again till the next day.

Loved that old bird.  And the memory this piece brought to mind.

Oh, Alison! MAGICAL!

We have ravens here too in the town and I hear them in the morning. I use to count
their crowing, because of something my Grandmother always said ...

I love them, but I see less sparrows when they are around, don't know why.

Your perception of nature's and wildlife's beauty is exceptionally profound and COLORFUL!

love and hugs

great poem, fine graphics image!

I am especially fond of that:

"Midnight sun warming raven beaks(!)"

and, those Ravens:

"Flying under blue skies, playing in wind currents
Catching the breeze and soaring for simple joy...

Looking from lofty heights at inattentive humans...

wonder(ing) if they are too busy to dream in color(!)"

serious, sustained applause!:

Loved this, especially that ending!
I miss those raucous ravens of the Interior,
and their antics in my sister's pig yard, how they challenged all attempts
to keep them off  tarp-covered straw bales.
They probably dream in technicolor...maybe even neon!

The ravens have not returned. They are probably
'puffed-up' trying to keep warm and readying
themselves for the long flight North.

Loved your poem and love the poem!!!

Bobby,

I always wanted to find a raven's roost.  I can only imagine what is tucked away around it - probably all sorts of magical treasures.

Thank you -

Heya James,

Our Magpie loved red wine.  It would have some and go perch on the back of the couch and take a snooze.  Loved that bird too.

Thank you. I took the picture yesterday and didn't like the gray of it all.  The raven said he didn't either - so we agreed to make it fun and colorful.

I know this to be true for the indigenous people of Alaska.  The Raven and the Bear are very much a part of their cultures.

Hi ML

These Ravens stay all year.  They are Northland Wonders in Alaska.  I truly love their ability to survive in the extreme colds and still be out and about dumpster diving.

I love them lots.

Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts ... xoxoxoxo
