Yes We Can, Stand For Change We Can Believe In!

Are we finally coming of age
Are the answers within reach
Can we take our Country back
Fight what the corporations preach?

Will it be for,"We the People"?
The way, it was meant to be
Can we stop the loss of our rights
Return to, "The Land of the Free"?

One man cannot change it all
He can't take it all apart
But with our help it can be done
And at the top, is where we start.

The status quo, has got to go
We all know, it's got to change
We can't wait, till it's too late
Now, is the time to rearrange.

It all started out with NAFTA
Bill Clinton could have stopped it cold
Now, the China Trade Agreement
Has them make most all that's sold.

The Congress and the Senate
Let it all snowball and grow
We borrow from the Communists
They'll bankrupt us, don't you know?

They give King Bush a free hand
To do most anything he likes
Like torture and wiretapping
And so-called preemptive strikes.

We must hold them all accountable
If they won't do the People's will
We merely have to kick them out
And vote for someone who will.

We can bring our Troops home
From Bushes ill begotten war
Give them the care they all deserve
Before we lose too many more.

On the other hand we can vote
To stay a hundred years in Iraq
Where we should have never gone
So sad, we can't take it all back.

All that we've been wasting
We can start to spend on us
If it's not too late already
If our treasury's not gone bust.

People caught in our disasters
Could get aid instead of rhetoric
And told they will not be forgotten
While they live in trailers and get sick.

We could develop other energies
And get away from foreign oil
Like cheap, renewable sources
Grown here onAmerican soil.

We can take tax cuts from the rich
And give the middle class a break
Bring jobs back to our People
That corporations want to take.

Maybe, fix some roads and bridges
Have health care for everyone
Fix schools and pay the teachers
Just some things, that can be done.

As far as the “super delegates”
They best listen to, what voters say
Not just put in, who they want
With some arrogant power play.

It surely is a time for change
It's time for the People to rule
Instead of the corporate politicians
Headed up, by some other fool.

Maybe we'll restore our image
And be what, we once stood for
A beacon that the World will see
Once more, leads to Freedom's door.

But, we can't show them anything
Unless, we first, see the light
And guide our Nation to the place
Where we the People, have the Right.

Some may not get past the color
That's sad, in this day and age
It's time for them to get over it
So, we can turn another page.

Let's hope he'll do what he says
That we won't get the shaft again
And when he wins the election
It will be all of us, who'll win.

We may not get another chance
At the least, not one like this
It's a once in a lifetime choice
That, would be a shame, to miss.

I respect everyone's opinion....and though I think he's probably a smart man....and I'd much rather see him than Hillary, I wouldn't vote for anyone that in any way "is", has been, or had any association with the Muslims....Yep, anyone can change, anyone can deceive, (as we've all experienced the long time association the terrorists that flew into the twin towers spent in this country befriending Americans and their communities until they murdered us).....He may be what he protrays..but, I'm kind of a "rather be safe than sorry" kinda guy.....and, as far as "King Bush" is concerned?....I really wonder if any other president has been faced with the trials and tribulations this guy has while they were in office? Sure, there's been many-a-wars and acts of terror...but none can compare (with the exception of Pearl Harbor) to what was inflicted on us.  Everyone can "imagine" what other Presidents "may" have done, how they would have handled things....Ronald Reagan would probably have leveled Iraq and Iran....Bill Clinton would probably handled things with talk not action, Jimmy Carter would probably just pray about it?...Harry Truman would have killed them all....If Bush hadn't done what he's done, he still would have been chastized in one way or another...things may have been better, but, probably worse. When it comes down to it....there's not alot to choose from this time around, but don't believe we need this guy for sure.

Toerag,
You need to read this http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_barack_obama_muslim.htm
and do a bit of checking before you do the "muslim" bit!  www.snopes.com also has the same info.   He is not and never has been muslim!!  more at http://www.google.com/search?q=was+barack+obama+muslim&sour  ceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-34,GGGL:en
This, about Bush is interesting, too.     http://cantkeepquiet.com/index.php/2008/02/01/olbermanns-special-comment-on-fisa/

Nice writing Abe...I agree that we need change...everytime we vote for a new President or Senator we are embracing change.
Change by itself is not the issue...making the right changes is...and what is right for some may be wrong in others opinion...Being a conservative it is hard for me consider candidates such as Obama and Hillary who lean heavily towards socialism...some love Hillary because she promised health care for everyone, some love Obama because they want someone that is the opposite of Bush.   McCain is more of a moderate than a conservative...and I want a conservative candidate...than again we can only vote for the candidates that are available...so at this moment in time I can only hope for a palatable Vice-Presidential candidate. Other than that...lots of people that didn't vote for Bush had to endure 8 years of him, and perhaps its my turn to endure 8 years of Obama, or Clinton, or McCain...like the Rolling Stones sang "You can't always get what you want."...and that certainly played true with President Bush who claimed he was a conservative but proved to be more of a moderate...James

From an Australian's point of view I  think it is a very thought provoking write and I do think it is time for a change, so long as it is a change for the better. I abhor the very thought of war but I often wonder what the world would be like today if Saddam Hussein and his two homicidal sons were still at the helm in Irak, wreaking murder and mayhem, not only on fellow Irakis
and Kurds but every other nationality that stood in his way. Someone has to stand up to be counted when tyrants like Hussein try to take over. Remember Adolf Hitler. Would we be better off today if Bush had of turned the other cheek, It's doubtful.
But it was a great poem written with a lot of thought, well done.

Is it 'King Bush'...or 'Emperor Shrubbery?!'

I'll repost a reply I made to a recent Robert E. Jordan 'write' (because it is equally applicable here):

As I have previously stated, I am most assuredly glad that at least a few authors are tackling
the 'important' social, political, and environmental issues with their posts in "P.I.P-land!"...
(even though that might likely offend those who hide behind 'rose-colored' glasses and
view the world through said)...and, again, I am not capable of such 'direct realism' styles
of writing; however, I admire those who are!

Much applause for this 'penning!'

Abe, I am enjoying reading the passionately expressed opinions that your politically poetic post is engendering!

Politics isn't as near as exciting up here, north of the 49th! lol

Well done, honest Abe. We need a major overhaul in this country, and a change of guard is past due.
Toe! How many more times do we have to go down this Muslim road issue? Obama is not Muslim (though I don't care what any candidate's PERSONAL religious or non-religious leanings may be)

I like Winston Churchill's "Keep buggering on" even better!
I am again also remembering that grand German painting
("The Krahe") which features a v. weather-worn crow
(wearing boots) steadfastly trudging across seemingly
endless cornfields.
