A tattoo...

like a wedding band

Done at free will

with all the heart and soul

knowing there was no turning back

With the promise, of an internal love

To cherish

With a small dream unknow to you

Through sickness and in health

for better or for worse

Until death do us part

How silly it now seems....

how painful its become...

A commitment of such nature

Written forever on your skin...

Jeanette

Should that have been Eternal Love as opposed to internal? Hope that doe's not come across as picky, other than that, I love it  !

MindBodySoul,

Oh yes.  That's the way it is with tattoos.  They are with you for ever.

Neat comparison here.  'Least the ring can be taken off usually painlessly.  Of course, the tattoos from a marriage are always present, aren't they?  Wheather removed phsically or not.

Interesting poem.

They have lasers for the real ones. Not for this, though.

Jen:
The only thing I can commit to anyone is to promote her autonomy and freedom, and help her to gain more of it.
Asking someone to marry me would be cruel and unusual punnishment.

a well expressed (both personal and eternal) point!

an 'important' write [touching upon the wisdom (and
the 'pain') of human relational experience]...

applause!

I wrote this poem saying good-bye to a recent relationship, in which i did brand myself with a tattoo that I considered a wedding band a promise of a forever that never came, of promises that were just said, of hopes that were just mine, of dreams that were only onesided.... a relationship filled with lies and false "I love yous"  its was the demon i faced and walked away from....     I now have designed something that will cover that brand... my symbol of stregth the head of a Mustang....

Thanks for sharing the origin of this --- "Fast Forward" --- two years from now you'll look back, with that mustang showing strength, and smile.  Kudos on this write!

Thank you for the informative insight. It helps enhance the feeling for this writing, and gives us opportunity to wish you well for a brighter love tomorrow that will be, hopefully, more permanant than your tattoo.

I think it was the wise philosopher Confucious who so eloquently said, "She who go to bed with itchy heart, wake up with inky finger."

Oh wait... that was his brother, Confusions... ! ...

My bad.

Well anywho, much better a symbol of lessons learned, than a lasting ring of discontent around the heart.

Nice poem MindBodySoul!

It was a lesson learned, an experience that i can put on my shelf of the past, something I will not do again.  My deepest thanks to all of you, for your wonderful words!  They brought tears to my eyes...
