Alfie is my cat
And he means the World to me.
To me
He's the most beautiful cat
That the Wirld will ever see.

I only wish I had the know-how
And basic grasp of technology
To show everybody Alfie
And they'd definatly agree
See exactly what I mean
When I say he's the most beautiful cat
That there's ever been.*

Basically,
He's big and bouncy and chocolate brown
And he's got the greenest eyes
That you've ever seen

But he does leave me quite frustrated
'Cause my admiration's unrequited
Mention me
And Alfie's not so keen.

Alfie thinks he's this great big star
And looks down on his 'Whisker's Treats'
Like they should be caviar.

And I've given up even trying
To share some quality time
'Cause immeadiatly he's off
Like a shot
He doesn't even stop to say goodbye
Alfie can't waste time
He's always got bigger fish to fry.

Alfie, please
Stop treating me
As if I'm as insignificant as a mouse.
After all,
I am the bringer of the food.
You probably just think that's my way
Of expressing gratitude
For you
Letting me live in your house.

I so want to be counted
As your friend and pal'
You just look down your nose at me
With a disdainful, 'Miaow'.

* Obviously, I'm a littlt bit biased.

Perhaps Alfie was a pampered cat in a royal Egyptian palace in a past life! ~ and has come to expect similar treatment in this one. Why not play the game and treat her as such in this lifetime! lol

To love & our feline friends,

Simon,

Cats are great.  My daughter had a cat that died just this year.  It was very sad.  I like cats a lot, however, my dog has put her paw down.  She says "NO".

simon,

I think you described the independence of the feline species very well.  We have two cats, a barnyard cat and the other, a spoiled garage cat.  The barnyard cat prefers to fend for herself and eat those little mousie morsels, while the tom we have expects his dinner served on time and to his great expectations!  I enjoyed reading about your cat.  You described the personality well.

Earth Angel, Bobby Jordan, Miscellenia, Poddarku. RDB And JamesMichael. Thank you so much for your comments. Alfie begrudgingly said thanx too before realizing he was with me and ran off somewhere far more interesting...

Simon, I enjoyed your Alfie as he unravels in your poem. Cats are like this mostly, but they are a precious company, even when they sleep. They all have a very strong need to affirm their independence. You can't make them do what you want. But if you ask for nothing they might decide to give you something for free … If I try to lift my cat Zelda from the floor to cuddle her, she runs off in a millisecond, even before I bend down, she just knows and reads my thoughts. Then, when SHE decides, she will come and sit in my lap for a welcome treatment of tenderness.

Of one thing rest assured, Alfie knows what you feel for him.

There is much more in a Miaow then we might suspect!

Great poem!

Alfie seems like quite a character. I have six and they all have quite different personalities. Cats are really very affectionate in their own way.

I enjoyed your tale about your cat, we have one 'Simba',that is very similar. A funny thing happened here yesterday, the doctor called to see me and brought her dog Abbey with her. She always lets her go for a run when she comes here and just as she was about to leave we heard Abbey start to bark.
My wife went out to see what the noise was about and found Abbey barking at Simba who was under a bush. Our little dog Rozzie followed Norma out and as soon as she saw Abby barking at Simba, she flew straight into her and bowled her over. The funny part is that Rozzie can run under Abbey's stomach without touching her. She is very protective of her mate Simba. Great poem.

... was reminded of your poem right now ... I found my husband sitting at the breakfast table, but not on his usual chair and I wondered why he had changed place ... yes, you imagine right: Zelda, our cat,  had chosen his chair and he did not want to disturb her! That's true catpower!

Have a great day. Enjoyed your story Lindsay!
