Being good but not good enough
Is what I know to do
You wouldn’t know this by looking at me
To know that this was true

Throughout each day a passing sorrow
Fills my tired brow
A restless night upon my pillow
Contains a solemn vow

Of a nearly man, one like myself
Who once felt like a king
I’m good at everything but not quite good
Enough at anything

Better to die, and sleep
The never-waking sleep, than linger on
And dare to live when the souls life is gone.

But at least you keep trying Trevor, better that than to give up at the first attempt?

To begin with: you are a very good poet!

If this is about you, I would say that this is a very diffused feeling in our society where we are continually confronted with  higher and higher demands, where only the very best performances seem good enough. Those who believe in themselves are better off, no doubt. May you recover the feeling of being a king and act with enthusiasm. We are all unique and precious!

And remember that the soul is always WHOLE and BEAUTIFUL, ETERNAL! (saw your foot note ...).

quote:
Oscar Wilde:
Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.

quote:
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe:
The soul is indestructible and its activity will continue through eternity. It is like the sun, which, to our eyes, seems to set at night; but it has in reality only gone to diffuse its light elsewhere.

I believe that not feeling good enough at anything we do, is part of the human condition. We have a sense that we can not live up to the expectations of others, nor to our self-imposed ones as well. I believe we should do the best at whatever it is that we endeavour to do, then let the chips fall where they may. Surrender to the powers that be and know that all will turn out as it is meant to be. Acceptance goes a long way in making one happy.

Love, Peace, & Harmony,

EA
