The Backstairs of Time (#2)

On this wind-pierced Night,
of glowering clouds and
thunderous Winter fire,
retreating through
these scattered hills
as a strange-fine mix
of frost and lightning,
one thinks…
of all things lost or
  left forlorn,
beyond some final,
unnamed river of the soul,
like a fog-bound lighthouse
calling in the night, mid
waves of unrequited love
shattering on a mystic
shore of grand regrets...
to which we can never return,
or all our unsettled hopes
and unreachable dreams,
stumbling forever…
down the backstairs of Time!

This has wonderful insight to the plight of many.  May your future keep you so entranced that your yesterdays are just a fleeting remembrance.

Very beautifully written, dear Bruce. There is a sense of loss, but I believe we are given the opportunity to continue what we have begun weaving here ... in one way or another. Forever ... moving ahead, not backwards.

We are in a permanent NOW.

Well, dear poet, YOU think beyond we mere mortals! lol

beautiful poem. beautiful.
have a good night, dear Bruce.

Who is knocking the front door of time?
Hope runs to answer
oh, "it is you, Tomorrow,
Today called you to come to fix the backstair
that Yesterday damaged accidentally."

Secondhanddreampoet,

For some reason, this wasn't as clear to me as your usual work.
