Stubbed Toes and Other Godly Things

I make it a point to talk to Him –
notice I said “to”, not “with” Him,
because, heck, He never answers,
at least not in any tangible way
that makes any sense at the time –
every once in a while, whether I need it or not.
Most of the time I’m not sure He’s even heard.

But sometimes, well, you really have to wonder.
I mean, take the time I was talking to Him
as I was luxuriating under a hot shower:
‘You know, I was saying to Him,
sometimes I just don’t feel like Becky needs me.
Think about it, when was the last time
she actually “needed” me?’

I luxuriated a little more, and, of course,
no answer . . .  But suddenly
I heard Becky screaming my name –
“HONEY!! HONEEY!! (She always called me ‘honey’,
not sure she knows my name is Larry”.)

I slammed open the sliding shower door
only to have it slam back against the side of my head
and went stumbling and cussing into the bedroom,
to find her rolled up in a ball on the floor
clutching the big toe of her left foot and crying,
“oh God, oh God, oh God”.

Now I know God works in mysterious ways.
And I know ‘someone’ needed me badly,
and it sure as heck sounded like Becky,
but she swears she never called for anyone
but God.

So you have to wonder.
Was HE really listening?
Was that toe lashing out at that old overstuffed chair leg,
preordained?
Was it his way of answering me in my time of need?
And was her call to Him, really a cry to me.

I don’t know, but I do know she needed me then.
She needed my arms around her,
that kiss on her nose,
my helping her onto the bed,
the awareness of me in all my naked, wet glory,
the passion that ended sometime later;
and the realization that that stubbed big toe
didn’t hurt so much anymore.

And I just couldn’t help looking up through the ceiling when she said,
“Honey, how do you always know,  just when I need you the most?”

Fantastic write! I loved it. You bet He always listens ... and you no doubt lived a great example of synchronicity!

Trust!

I sometimes wonder why I talk to Him and seemingly get no reply

it's really frustrating

but now and then I do get visits from angels so it makes it worth it all

this is a keeper for sure my friend!
