A monarch butterfly
dancing before my eyes.
In January?
Is it global warming
or an angel in disguise?

Ida,

That's strange indeed.  Here, butterflies tend to move in swarms.

Nice work on this short poem.

MarchMadness I don't think it is Global warming!

well hopefully not, I don't want it to be global warming. Global warming is very scary, and I think that it is a angel in disguise

Enjoyed the Beautiful Read!

Dear Ida, it must surely have been an angel! ~ Perhaps our beloved Sy the Sonneteer was winging by!

On a more serious note, I have been very concerned about global warming and the future of our planet. I watch all the TV programs on this subject. I also do my best to live a green life.

Ida

You brought warmth to a bitterly cold February day - and for that you have my gratitude.

Such beauty and such a gift!

This little poem has my full attention, dear Ida.

I am very happy to believe that the souls manifest or at least try to make us think of them using the butterflies ...Isn't it a beautiful thought? Yes I love the idea that it was dear Sy saying hello.

I have told this story already somewhere, but I will repeat it to you here ... during the funeral of my grandmother (I was her darling granddaughter ...) in Switzerland, inside of the church I suddenly became aware of a little blue butterfly sitting on my shoulder and I was feeling strangely happy seeing it. It REMAINED ON MY SHOULDER till the end of the ceremony, even in the graveyard, until we went home. At a certain moment I looked and it wasn't there anymore. But a butterfly sitting for such a long time on my shoulder was absolutely extraordinary, dont't you think?!

And of course global warming is a big issue and the sooner we become aware the better it will be ... but not all depends on careless behaviour of man. Too complex to develop here.

Love and joy
Margherita

Oh, the butterfly was not a dream. I was sitting on my back porch a couple of weeks ago, just before the big rain when all of  a sudden there was a large monacrch butterfly fluttering around fairly close to me. I was just sitting there for a moment enjoying it when I suddenly thought It's January, where did this butterfly come from?
I kept thinking about it so I wrote this poem. I tend to agree with Margharita. I believe it is a sign of some sort.

Thank you all for your comments. I have not been on the site all that long and I did not really know Sy very well, wish I had. I read his poetry and he seems to have had a lot of good friends here. which speaks volumes for him. I can see how you all miss him and have enjoyed the many wonderful tributes to a fellow poet.

There's so much we'll never know, but I definitely believe that nature is very telling.   It has a language of its own doesn't it?

A pleasure to read and reflect upon...

Thank You very much, John. It didn't start out that well as I had to get a root canal after having a toothache the night before
but when I got past that I had a very nice birthday. It was my 64th so I guess I'm just lucky to have teeth and the ability to get a root canal.

You are welcome Ida. I have a suggestion for your 65th,  go visit Venice the canal work there you will find much more agreeable & after a lunch of tasty pasta washed down with a fine wine, you could take a side trip to the valley of the butterflies....

Beautiful! And since I don't hold with the idea that 'global warming' is killing us all - rather I believe it's just mother earth turning over, it has to be ...'and angel in disguise'.

Again, short, simple ... beautiful.

I think its a combination of those things. Irregardless that its January (or now... March), i'd love to see a butterfly right now!!! :-)
