One and One

Between the words we say
and the instincts we obey
there's a world I find I can hide away
I come here to understand you
and find a different view
to perfect moments love brings
and in the heart of these things
which keep me afloat tonight
I will steer clear of any warning signs
and unwind the fabric of this time
to see the future aflame
in your murder mystery eyes
the reflected names of all the lies
I've created to get here with you

Influenced by the nearness of your skin
I try to erase past fingerprints and begin again
reign the inner child into an outer man
the shell cracked and head in the sand
but I hear your footsteps draw ever near
and it's possible I may remember with you here
the faintest traces and memories of being real
telescoping out the distant emotions I'll feel
once the world stops shaking
and I will be waking
from nightmares gone on much too long
and I will write the right song
and kick out all the wrong
I've encountered here to get with you

Surrendered to the exquisite daylight
finding me here, eager for that light
golden and the right kind of invitation
to bring me beyond the unnamed sensation
of seeing you here, becoming one with me
renewing the rushing waves of a green sea
to wellspring inside this hopeless dream
I can't recall just when I stopped caring
the nature of this heart I'm carrying
stitched to my sleeve, angrily beating
for your addition to my eyes now greeting
the light of the future with an open face
and smile made up of your finger trace
I've never done more right than get with you

One and one
the mantra to deliver me
two, me and you
better than I'd ever be
as just one

One and one
the equation just right
two, me plus you
the darkness ends in light
of a new day sun

that's the ride I took." --Gin Blossoms, '29'
