A Speck In Time

I sit, listening to the sounds of the sunset,
birds becoming quiet, trees whispering softly.
An occasional bark of a dog awaiting a master’s
return.

Sky shifting from white to blue, red and finally black,
sprinkled by a million dots of illuminating salt.
A pale moon’s glow replacing the brilliance.
A dove, solitarily calling a distant mate.
A babe, newborn, crying softly as it lies in wait of
a new world.

This sun has set more times than we can comprehend,
taking the beauty of the earth, covering it with a
brilliant warming light or what in universal time is only
a blink, a slight moment, shared by so many throughout
time eternal, until a breath snuffs the candle’s wick.

Quite humbling to those of us alive today, when we
reflect that our lives span only a mere microsecond of time,
of earth’s history.  Preceded by so many others who have loved
fought, cried with sorrow and mixed joy, died...  Conceived
others who became the next microdot of a clock’s wink as
a part of evolution and creation within a place so vast that
that we all can not possibly truthfully comprehend the depth
of what God has created.

Live, live a humble existence, cherish sweetly each moment
of history you have....and give thanks for all that you have,
for though only a speck of universal salt, we all have a
purpose, a reason for being born....for breathing that first and
last breath....for simply being alive.

Dear Poet, I do believe that you perceive far more than many others do, as the sun is setting.

Do sit, dear Barry, and meditate, for your reflections and conclusions are profoundly wise and extremely beautiful.
