When my time has come
and green eyes finally close
I would ask this of life,
to please leave, just one rose.

Lay it softly against my cheek
so that I might feel
that the love of one,
at least was real;

that my time here on earth
hasn't been all for naught
that I might be held in the heart of one

     and not be forgotten.

If upon tomorrow
it is my time to go
I pray that someone might leave
just one rose.

I have a feeling that when that time comes (which will be a long time from now!) that there will be many, many roses. The love is real.
A lovely read.

Donna, m'dear, your cheeks would not be broad enough to support all the roses that would be put upon them!!!

Love you!

Sending a rose in advance (many, many years in advance!) "rose"

My friend,

How beautiful and how sad to my heart this morning.

This is a treasure and a keeper, kind of like you.  (smiles)

Love,

Tender expression of a moment of melancholy, dear Donna, beautifully put.

As other friends here have said, please trust that there will be many roses (besides the one which you will cherish in a special way).

Love and hugs.

As an unabashedly 'incurable romantic,' perhaps I am
especially biased...however, I think this 'write' is most fine!
[It reminds me of a softer-side Robert Burns penning]

I am particularly fond of the beginning:

"When my time has come
and green eyes finally close
I would ask this of life,
to please leave, just one rose."

v. serious, sustained applause!!

THIS speaks such volumes!! Your words are gentle yet also a quiet strength lies behind them...beautiful!

Dear Donna, I'm sure that time is a long long way into the future, but when it does

come I'm sure it will be weighed down with roses. A beautiful poem, a big hug to you'

I have to agree with the Poet

the poem is exquisite
but the first stanza is breathtaking

well done Gentle Donna
