It seems I've never felt
what it means to lose a mother,
my mother was a lost affair
long before and all the time I knew her;
there but never really there,
holy emptiness
had  swallowed all her silly dreams
before I was even born,
loved a guy so much
he ran off to be a priest
only way he knew
to chase release from her insanity,
didn't stop him later though
from finding ways to hang around,
I guess he couldn't keep his praying hands
off of her soul;
never loved my Pa,
only married him for the insurance,
a soldier's proud assurance
that he was going off to die in war,
back when we still knew
sometimes a man has to stand and fight
so the children will survive,
the kind of war
where we're OK that they don't like us
‘cause we're gonna kill them anyway,
anyway we can,
‘cause they made it very clear
that really is their plan for us,
that kind of war we don't know how to fight no more,
but he survived,
damn him in her eyes,
and then came home,
ruined such a perfect plan
so she learned to kill him her own way,
fed him to death with every pot and pan
dreaming all the while of the other one,
the one that never really got away.

no words will do ...
but I leave my heartprints here.

There are more such life dramas than we would
ever guess probably.

Missed you too, you always bring powerful
emotions.

"It seems I've never felt

It's sad  when one never has known the love of a parent though we all have memories that sometimes don't recall the truth.
Maybe we can never feel loved enough...

You held me with each word - and kept me mesmerized from beginning to end.  This is one of the best poems that I have read here - a keeper for sure.

To read your poetry is to learn more about you and your life ~ and all that has made you into the fine poet that you are today.

There is a great deal of grist in your life to feed your poetic mill.

Loving hug,
EA

"I guess he couldn't keep his praying hands off her soul" That's what I like about your
poetry, Ice. You tell it like it is. Don't you wonder why people leave behind things better left unsaid? I will read this "keeper" many times because it grows and changes with each reading.
