“Summer cotton grass
sways the breath of the wind
among muskeg ponds.”

Alison,
This post is an arctic beauty
~ poetically and photographically.

Alison,

You probably don't remember this, but during World War II kids used to collect milkweed pods, and turn them into the goverment.  The "silk" was used to stuff life vests.

A most useful plant.

Thank you so much, my wonderful PiP friends.

And, Bobby, - no, I didn't know that.  How fascinating.

Jaime,

This is one of the ones that you asked me about.  It's a cotton grass in among tall bright green grass.

Cotton grass grows in muskegs (also known as bogs) among the ponds.  It looks like cotton and blows really lightly in the wind.

The haiku on this one says:

Summer cotton grass
sways with the breath of the wind
among muskeg ponds.

Friends,
Alison
