I wrote this one back in 1999, I hope you don't think that that was too long ago to put in here.

           The New Millennium

This century has nearly run it’s race
And as the time steals steadily past,
A new millennium, we are about to face
For the die will soon be cast.

A new era comes and brings new things
As has all the times that’s passed before,
New technology to all our lives will bring
The unlocking of some new door.

Looking back on things that changed our life,
To all the wonders now unfurled,
The wireless bringing news of strife,
And a music lifeline to the world.

The motor car that replaced the horse,
The jet planes that cross our skies,
All the tragedies that bring remorse
And a hope and faith that none denies.

Enormous steps that technology’s made,
The now take for granted television,
The miracle of the fax displayed
And on new inventions make decision.

Lives changes by computer, plain
And perhaps looked on with some regret,
For many there are that still refrain
From using the magic wonder of the net.

Men have made & dropped atomic bombs
And in other ways been out of tune,
Now our lives are run by the cee-dee rom,
Since man first walked upon the moon.

As we all approach this centuries end
And though to many memories we will cling,
Our hope, our health, our life depends
On what the new millenium’s sure to bring.

I wrote a poem in 1997 rather similar to this. I find it interesting to look back on my thoughts and all the furor associated with the new millenium.

Oops-a-daisy! I almost missed this poem ~ and I try to catch them all!

The rate of change in this world continues to be on the rise!

I enjoyed the nostalgic look back ~ and the promising look forward!

Love to you, Aussie Man!

I remember when the millennium came in and I have seen the changes that have come in the last ten years, both for the good and the bad.  Thanks for the look back.
