Nutritionists now say,
You're supposed to eat 5 portions of fruit and veg,
Each and every day.
And that's okay,
I don't usually have a problem with eating my greens,
I quite like artichokes and aubergines
Broad beans and nectarines
All of them are great
But the one thing that's really beginning to grate
And makes me quite irate
What makes a mockery of it all
Is the lump of broccoli on my plate.

Stop stalking me broccoli!
Seemingly talking to me
I don't like you.

I'm sure that sometime in the past
My Mummy must have asked me,
'Do you like broccoli?'
And I must have gone 'yummy!'
Whilst patting my tummy
But guess what,
I lied
Now, there's nowhere for me to hide.

You see, according to my mother
There's just 2 food groups
Broccoli and AN other
And I know it's probably positively packed
With poly-whatever
And it'll make me more clever
And live for several more days
So it's to be reccomended if you're a little bit dim
And can't exactly be described as stick-slim
But who wants to live forever
Anyway?

Now, I don't wish to appear ungrateful or rude
So I eat the food that's given and I grin and I bear
And if I don't like it, I should go and eat elsewhere,
I know
But I can't help it, broccoli just puts me in a bad mood.

I'm sorry broccoli but I'm just so bored with you
Don't make me have to have you forcibly removed
Don't make have to throw you against the nearest wall
Like a moth-eaten tennis ball
It's time for you to nourish
Somebody else.

Gosh, this is truly a fun read!! Enjoyed it, though I am not so tremendously against the poor broccoli, but of course I wouldn't like them as an everyday dish!!

love and joy

Cute, funny poem, Simon. Actually, I hate raw celery and once when I was in school (second grade) I sat in the lunch room from lunchtime until time to go home (I rode the bus or I'd probably still be there) because I wouldn't eat two stalks of celery. I still don't like it and I'm still glad I didn't eat it.

Simon,

You just sit there and eat your broccoli.  I love broccoli, but then, I'm not too picky.

Broccoli is great with butter and salt.

Guess what I found for supper yesterday??!!

Had to think of this poem and smiled. I loved it, because I was quite hungry, ate it together with a slice of Swiss bread and a slice of Italian ham (prosciutto crudo San Daniele!)

Good one Simon, this could have been written for me !

I also hate broccoli
(In fact anything coloured green)
And carrots and turnips
Are also not my scene

That’s why I can never complete
The required 5 a day
I’m so fussy about  what I eat
‘Tis a wonder I don’t blow away

My wife gets really annoyed
When she looks at my plate
At the lack of a void
Caused by what not got ate

In fact the only grub
That makes me lick my lips
Is the steak they serve at the pub
With a big pile of chips

But my biggest addiction
(And I’m sure Arctic Wind can relate)
Is a pudding of any description
Smothered  in melted choc-o-late……
Cheers,  John
