today the doors will be closed
the cash registers will stop
the traffic and the people will all stand still
not a sound will be heard
bar for the ticking of the clocks

the first to ascend
now lies at the foot of the hill
and as the nation mourns
a heart sings somewhere
of the mountains he once wandered

There is a sadness in the air and the air is everywhere!

I'm never quite sure whether some men are brave or just plain crazy but the one you speak of made history so perhaps it doesn't matter.  He is, however, worthy of being honoured here so I thank you ... on his behalf.

Honeybunch,

Helen,

Thank you, there will not be another like him in my lifetime. It was not his stature that made him stand head and shoulders above us but his demeanor in being just himself.

Thank you Frank, for bringing  this to our attention. Knowing how you love to climb and how much of a hero he is to your country, this is a wonderful tribute to Sir Edmund Hillary.

Roniece Dawson-Bruce,

His unassuming manner caused an assumption of greatness by default.

And yes, but I see you have deserted to across the ditch.

nakdthoughts,

Maureen,

He climbed mountains, I climb hills, tried mountains but found some of the narrow ledges a bit too precarious, and size 15 feet both of which at times are left doesn't help.

passing shadows,

Dixie,

Thank you, I doubt that any tribute would be enough for what he did. It wasn't just mountains that he had to climb.
