please take the time

as the January winds blow and the natives all know the usual late Coeur d' Alene line of cars and logging trucks clipped along the weary asphalt ribbon of a highway between there and the Canadian fringe the stretch has been dotted with crosses and flowers dating as far back as covered wagon days regrettably due to our lack of denizens the county is unable to provide better and not only is it likely the most inadequate but unfortunately it's the only blood vein we have

far above a helicopter monitors the over crowded flow I know it must look like two endless streams of ants crossing the countryside in opposite directions jostling to catch the eye of one another with frequent lane changes passing speeding honking tailgating

the day has been long and dusk about an hour away the traffic slowed to a crawl as the white began to fall winter temperature still justified having a heater on flashing lights from a patrol vehicle ahead sounds a visible alarm I send off as many quick prayers as possible cars breaking slipping and sliding as were we it's not exactly the time of day my wife sees so well I hope everyone made it through but it looked like hell but the driver had only slid off the road lucky for them it didn't happen on a mountainside

as I gazed back on reflections so many have left behind a reminisce of my own flashed hanging from a thread to later wake in a hospital wishing I was dead later I was glad I learned and saw the light in the message yet another set of crosses only indicates how many haven't I gave up driving after that accident in 86 howbeit still today the highway's hold my worst fears and now I am but a passenger one scared passenger please take the time and drive thoughtfully
