you know the man next door
checks his mail diligently
then spies into a neighbors box
his lady friend across the street
opens the door to look both ways
before she sees a another postman
in deep concentrated thought
about what another person does
what does the other person do
to please in the daylight
steal a look in clear view

you know the woman next door
wears fruit on her head
has her own curiosity
it peaks with the mail
about the man who has
the extra shave
it never nicks
its all about
intentions
at doorstep
letterboxes
when you gaze
otherwise who cares
what they think
of appearances...
why once wigs carried sailboats
surely there is room for an orange
in a still life by Cezanne
part of the composition
broken touches of veridian
and Parisian blue...
room for letter openings
mailbox treasure hunts,
although the neighbors
might disapprove

Martin, your poem peaked my curiosity,
that's for sure.

reminded me of the other day while teaching an Art class about Van Gogh and how each child viewed the making of a landscape  differently.

Always enjoy reading you, Martin

I too am amazed at where the cultural references come from ...all this is way of me understanding myself through some of the feedback I get
