When you walked out the door
And slammed it in my tear-streaked face,
I was on my knees begging,
Promising you that I’d give chase.
The problem was, you were really leaving,
Not looking for pursuit.
So I was left out in the cold,
The pain slicing through me acute.

But I held my head high,
Because I did everything I could.
I bargained and pleaded, shamelessly begged,
But on the other side, you firmly stood.
So I picked up the few pieces,
And I walked away with them.
Looking back every few minutes,
Asking you to call me back again.

Sometimes when a relationship ends,
Some walk away, just walk out of sight.
But I think holding back is wrong,
And I’m not going down without a fight.
No, I have no pride,
Not when it comes to this.
I’d rather know I fought with my all,
Than think there might have been a chance at happiness.

So if they decide they may want to go,
Don’t let pride stand in your way.
Beg them not go, get on your knees,
Make it too hard for them to go away.
Because if there’s happiness,
Even just a spark,
It’s worth fighting until the end,
Even if you end up with a broken heart.

~Poetess's Note:
So, this is kind of something I feel really strongly about.  I mean... OK, when Max left? I begged him not to go.  I called and cried and pleaded, and while it was all to no avail, I walked away with my head held high, because I'd done everything I could.  I mean, it may not have been the PERFECT relationship, but hey... I was happy.  And when you walk away from a relationship, just walk away, people say, "Well at least you've got your pride."  Excuse me very much, my pride isn't much comfort when I think that there may have even been a scrap of a chance at happiness.  I'd rather know that there was no chance whatsoever of being us again than know that I "still have my pride." Just a thought.~

I SPEAK my mind because it HURTS to bite my tongue.

I think men like to do the pursuing and are turned off by women who beg, cry etc. In my many years of observation I have found this to be true. I think men tend to want what is less available but that's just my opinion and I could be wrong.

I felt sad.  I think that it is always painful to end a relationship... No matter who's fault. But the pride I think is that you have loved him and he has loved you (I believe it) even for a short time, which is enough to make this relationship a significant history.  Cherish the good time and forget the bad. and life, can be more brighter after the dark period.
my thought
I love this poem
