Happy Birthday Eric
14th January 1950

Happy Birthday Eric,
you’re a very different case
the way that you write poetry
can hit one in the face!
It’s full of wit and wisdom
on that I must agree,
though it lacks the elegance and charm
of our friend ‘Grandma Bea’.

But the way that you a approach it
is mirrored by you life,
overcoming and accepting
all the things that cause most strife.
Although a rough cut diamond
when you look into the core
there’s a warm and glowing centre
that your closest friends adore.

So have a Very Happy Birthday
now you’re getting very old.
Enjoy each passing moment
and life’s each and every fold.
Please still lure us with your poetry,
cantankerous or not,
for I’m sure there’s still opinions
you can throw into the pot.

Ivor G Davies

The moment created this second, is a  moment that's going to last.
It lives the full spectrum of time, the future, the present and past.

I don't know who Eric is but after reading your poem he must be a nice individual. Nice poem to a friend. dragoon

Eric is 'Fairplay' on this site (and Lit.Org) I have to put up with him as he is a very close relation!

Outspoken,honest poet
with opinions of his own.
Although he lives in Canada
he's often in my home.
His words can be abrasive
his logic though is clear.
His style is hard to swallow
if it's critique that you fear.
But listen to his rantings
though they can be quite unkind.
If you take the time to read them
it's surprising what youy'll find.

Yes, Eric does come across a bit cantakerous sometimes ... but I am happy that he (and you) are here.

Happy Late Birthday, Eric.

Is Eric your brother?

From what I have gleaned from Fairplay's poetry and replies, it appears as though you have hit the nail on the head! ~ So to speak! lol

I am sure that he will appreciate your candor, your blessings, your appreciation, your wit and your charm.

A diamond is still a diamond, even if the cut is rough! lol

Happy birthday to you, Eric!

Here is a hug for each of the two Davies men!

Hi Ivor all

Thank you so much for your verse and birthday wishes.

Nah I am really a softie

Got caught up in Christmas New Year ... University Trips the birth of my sixth grandchild (16th Jan) Thomas Edward (Hope if he does poetry it's better than his namesake) Then there is the Chinese New Year to look forward to...

Though I sort of retired at 50 when I moved up to the Lake District there still doesn’t appear to be enough hours in the day...

The rough edge of course comes from being self sufficient after being kicked out of my home at 12 sent to a couple of boarding schools.... they must have been Good because I think they were "Approved Schools" Joined the Army at 15 instead of going to jail.... So just send me all your addresses and credit card pin numbers... and I can send a short résumé of my life to date….

Like Ivor I am into spirits maybe in a different way though…

And if you believe that lot of tripe……

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and to Ivor for a great verse

Eric xxx
