A wooded hollow
Surrounded by sound
Lie’s in the realm of us
Chilling winds
And swaying trees
Amongst themselves discuss

How old man willow
Used to be
The oldest tree around
Until Mother Nature
Decided that
It was time to lay him down

The lightning struck
And thunder roared
The rain came from the sky
And old man willow
Held his ground
He didn’t want to die

“You’ve lived your life.”
Said Mother Nature
“It’s time to lay your seed.
We must make way
For other life
Be silent and take heed.”

But old man willow
Old and dismayed
Didn’t hear her words
He stood his ground
His roots held fast
Not a single branch did stir

“Mother Nature!”
Cried old man willow
“Please don’t end my life.
So many creatures
Depend upon me
It just doesn’t at all seem right.”

But Mother Nature
Wise beyond years
Just looked at him and said,
“Dear old man willow
It’s your destiny
You seeds you must spread.”

Old man willow
Then realized her intent
A feeling within him grew
It’s time to create
More room for life
This is something he always knew

The wind picked up
His branches flailed
His time was at an end
Old man willow
Began to fall
And his trunk started to bend

A crack was heard
Throughout the forest
A sadness felt around
Old man willow
On his side
A single seed upon the ground

The storm had ended
Poor old man
His life not given in vain
That single seed
Would grow and grow
A willow would sprout again

The wooded hollow
Surrounded by sound
Beneath the shaded glen
If we believe
In destiny
Our lives will start again

Better to die, and sleep
The never-waking sleep, than linger on
And dare to live when the souls life is gone.

Nice writing, T. (I'm not messing with that name) and this is what I believe also.

Wonderful write, I loved the personification of the Old Willow. You conveyed deep emotion.
And I believe in transformation.
In a way or another life goes on.

Thanks for writing your nice things. I posted at another site and here's what I got:

These guys were brutal. I appreciate the critique and all but man o man. I didn't expect this.

I tried that site too, T. There's a bunch of very nasty people there who think they are something they are not and they get points for criticizing others. You will find some truly talented people on this site who don't have  to tear others down to make themslves feel better. American Poems is another good site. Welcome to the site, I think you will enjoy it here.
