I sat there watching
As she died
Wishing I could hear "I love you" one last time
All of us in utter distress
She left us all with a hole in our hearts
She was the first loved one I ever lost
I will never forget that day
seeing her laying there in total disaray
nothing like her usual self
Two doves were sitting on the window sill
When she passed one flew off one stayed
I cried the entire night not understanding
quite yet
what this all really meant
I was nine just a young boy
my favorite Grandmother gone just like that
never to take me to church again
or write and read her beautiful poetry to me again
The next day her yellow rose bush
that she planted the year before bloomed
just one yellow rose
it never has bloomed again just the one time
the day after she went to Heaven
