       Winter Mere

As an ephemeral sunset
paints snow-shadowed
  hills
in the finest patina
of a Winter evening,

and crystal-clear
  moonlight
leaks through the
roof of stars,
in ethereal flow
over fen, field,
and forest,

a lonely cloud drifts
along the gossamer
mirror-edge,
where water and sky
become one…

Here, neither sorrow,
nor trace of travesty,
trial, or tempest,
shall linger...
on this lake
of finest dreams!

tucking this away for further readings, as I think it's really a fantastic write.

Happy New Year, dear Bruce!

This poem has me wondering if it is in conversation with Wordsworth’s
“I wandered lonely as a cloud…”

And when you write

“a lonely cloud drifts
along the gossamer
mirror-edge,
where water and sky
become one… “

I think of Van Gogh’s Irises – the single white one among the indigo faces…
