In Memory of My Dad Dad didn't have much money, That's a fact he'd not deny, But he had love and skills and worth That money cannot buy. I never saw him do a thing To bring a daughter shame. Each of his seven children Was quite proud to bear his name. He was a farmer born and bred And used to honest work. No farm job was too much for him Nor caused that man to shirk. He put our wants before his needs, He'd simply go without. He could teach the most skilled counselor What parenting's about. No child of his defied him And if we broke a rule We learned quite early that he was Impossible to fool. Before he left for Heaven These many years ago He taught us all the simple truths We'll ever need to know. I know God has found work for him To keep him happy there And he'll be the first to greet me when I climb that golden stair. For he will want to teach me All the rules I need to know Just as he did with earthly ones So many years ago. By: Joyce 12/26/07 |

Joyce~ What an absolutely beautiful tribute to your father~ 'He put our wants before his needs, He'd simply go without.' Dads are like that ... yeah, they are~ Love n' *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*The sound of a kiss is not as strong as that of a cannon, but it's echo endures much longer*~ |

I was truly touched by the content of your poem. I think what got me teary eyed was the part about God finding him work to do, as if he could never be happy with idle hands; truly the way of a real man. I wish there were more like him. I thank you. All the darkness in the universe cannot extinguish the light of a single, burning candle. |

what a wonderful tribute to your father...and he must have been a loyal friend to those who probably loved to be around him...was he a people magnet? Lovely poem...thanks so very much for sharing. |
