Not Far Away
By Larry Chadwick
I remember when...
There is a land I like to visit and itís not too far away,
All I do is close my eyes and thereís no limit to my day.
Because itís not that hard to travel to this place that I like,
Before I know it I am there and I donít even need my bike.
My mother seems quite jealous of the time that I spend there,
Apparently she has no passport and cannot afford the fare.
She says something about a day dream and wasting so much time,
But if sheíd travel once there with me Iím sure sheíd think itís fine.
So I go there when I can and I usually travel alone instead,
Itís often after I say my prayers and mom tucks me into bed.
I lay my head back on my pillow and close my eyes real tight,
Then with very little effort I can stay there for the entire night.
I wish that you would join me in this land not far away,
It makes me think of heaven and makes me want to stay.
Perhaps Iíve seen the future and what my life might be,
If there were not restrictions and I could just be me.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
