Her wallet full of plastic
Has been maxed up to the hilt
Ensuring the kids Xmas is fantastic
And yet She feels no guilt

They have a bigger, better set of lights
Than the one’s next door
The ‘fridge is crammed with exotic delights
Yet She still goes out for more

3 trolleys full of must haves
Groan as She leaves the superstore
Ignoring the beggar dressed in rags
Whilst trying to find Her new 4 by 4

A contented smile across Her face plays
When She finally spots it
Taking up 2 disabled bays

She begins to load the vintage wine
And imported Belgian beer
Hoping everyone will have a better time
Than they did last year

Then She hits the button on the sat nav
That has been programmed ‘Home’
Not forgetting first of course
To switch on Her limited edition mobile ‘phone

She turns on the 52 inch plasma screen
And opens another box of luxury mince pies
When a sight She considers so obscene
Is played out before Her eyes

It is not a very festive thing
To have to watch at this time of year
All those poor people dying
Thousand’s of miles from here

She thinks it really is such a disgrace
And something should be done
As another mince pie disappears into Her face
She switches over to channel 1 ….

'Tis a sad scenario, indeed ~ and one that many of us is guilty of to one degree or another.

The other day my daughter asked me if I would like to go shopping for groceries to donate to our local food bank ~ something that she does every year. The feeling that one gets from helping those less privileged, is the greatest Christmas gift of all.

All year 'round, she donates her time and money to several causes that are near and dear to her precious heart.

Thank you for this poem and its important message. ~ and btw, I appreciated your poetic effort as well!!! Well done!

God bless you! ~ and Merry Christmas!

EA

Thank you EA, & thank your Daughter also for making time to help those less privleged & fortunate as the rest of us. This one came about partly after being bombared with Tv ads for all the latest gizmos. In the UK, shops are limited to what times they can open. eg, on a Sunday they are open from 11am to 4pm & you can only purchase things between those hours. However, some shops open an hour before so you can browse/choose what you want but you have to wait until 11am to pay. In order to maximise the xmas bonanza, they are now staying open even longer this saturday & opening even earlier on sunday. 2 of the largest geocery stores slogans are: 'Every little helps' & 'Do something different today' how sad they do not follow your Daughters example and do just that. A very Merry Xmas to You & Yours..EP

EP, thank you for your kind response to my response! ~ and for the explanation as to how this poem came into being!

Sunday shopping in our area is normally 12:00 to 5:00 ~ but like in England, the hours are greatly expanded at this time of year. It's all about more, bigger, and better! Shop, shop, shop ~ 'til you drop! Yes, the true meaning of Christmas does get somewhat lost in the shuffle, hustle, and bustle.

Love & Christmas Light,
EA

May the true Spirit of Christmas permeate you.

Your Poem is a very powerful reminder to act out of Love, always, but especially now when the world seems glittering, but too many dwell in the darkness of poverty and abandon and solitude.

Thank you so much for this. I also enjoyed the conversations with dear Linda.

May you enjoy perfect health!

Love,
Margherita

Thank you one & all for your kind words & thoughts especially at this time of year. It is a really strange feeling to sit in front of my pc thousands of miles away from you all and feel the warmth & love of unmet, unknown strangers I now consider friends. As I read your comments a kinda of tingly, shivery glow crept across my skin. How sad that people are today rushing around in pursuit of last minute bargains oblivious to how the simplest of acts such as a smile or 'Merry Xmas' could make to someones day/life. Thanks again, have a happy peaceful time filled with love & I will be back next year.John  XX

What a shame that this woman does not understand the true meaning of Christmas.
