in the shadows

Elusive sleep
playing catch me if you can
amidst the rubble a lifetime
of debris,
images
shadows
common to any wastrel's life,
the bawdy flash of skin,
the comment out of place,
the faces exploding in a fog
of dedicated skill,
choices
begging hopelessly for recall;
will there ever be a time
when the collective human soul
grows up,
earns its redemption from dawdling
through two million years
of lessons for the young,
and stands
at last
to take its place amongst the stars?

icebox - within the collective soul there is individual free will so the answer to your question has to be "no".  On the other hand, there may just be another big bang but, you know, sometimes we worry about things that don't concern us.  Though we be embroiled in this thing called life I do believe we are in reality viewing it from afar and are, therefore, distant from whatever may befall it.  Only time will tell.

I hope for you a peaceful festive season and new year.

As one insomniac to another, IceBox, I do think we will finally grow up and take our place among the stars. I think the closer we get to that goal the harder our lessons become and (more importantly) the more we think about them and struggle to succeed. Sounds like to me you're in college. This lifetime has given you the wonderful gift of being able to relate your experiences to the rest of us who learn from your wisdom.

The time of awakening is now.
And you are a messenger of beauty.
