.

Mittens socks
Hats
And combs . . .

There are
Bundles of letters
That were never sent
And bridges not built
To be ever burned

Keys to doors
Before they were used
Those destroyed in far
And nearby wars
Friends long gone
In other times

Bikes and cats
Various sundry pets
Childhood toys
And bright balloons

Finally eventually
The missing person
Who was not in my life
Looking for no one
To bring her home

And my son—
The one of my love
I never had
Playing with a dog
In the long front yard

He waves to me happily
A laugh on his face—
Wholly unaware
Of who I am

I'm glad that this is not one of those lost things...

I think most things lost go unnoticed completely.
It's good to remember them sometimes.
