(This is an all-new premiere I've written for this holiday season, which touches on another way where individuals can give to others during the holiday season: literally by giving up part of themselves to make another who is suffering from cancer, alopecia areata (an autoimmune disease where the body attacks its own hair follicles and suppresses or stops hair growth) or other sorts of medical conditions that result in hair loss.

Locks Of Love (Official Web-Site

In light of the many children who suffer from such conditions, a non-profity charity organization called "Locks of Love" was formed, which accepts donations of human hair and money, with the stated intention of making prostheses for financially-disadvantaged children who have lost their hair due to a medical condition.

The most recent Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance report, valid through April 2008, reported that Locks of Love met all twenty of its "Standards for Charity Accountability.", which I am proud this charity remains one of the most purest in the world. In fact, 80% of all donations come from children who wish to help other children, which that statistic alone makes me tear up inspirationally.

Locks Of Love (Donate)

If you're interested in donating some of your own hair, or becoming a volunteer, all general information is available via the link above. I don't intend to donate mine for the time being, but if someone very close to me comes down with an aforementioned condition, and my hair meets the guidelines for donation, I will be honored to make that sacrifice for that person.

God Bless You all! )

Silver Bell Soliloquies
By: Noah Eaton

Angela was undergoing chemotherapy,
from cancer at just nine years of age,
her hair was falling out from treatment,
leaving her with a grief so few could gauge,
she locked herself in her room for days,
having lost her self-esteem,
she didn’t want her friends to see her,
afraid that she’d be mocked and teased.

Her best friend Hannah,
knew what she suffered,
and remembered:
“The manner of giving,
is worth more than the gift.”
Giving what cannot be taken,
would be giving as the angels give.

Hannah spent the Monday after the Fourth of July,
at the Noland Suttles Salon,
cleaning and braiding up her hair,
to donate ten inches of her amber locks,
to offer to Angela as a prosthesis,
as an early present this Christmastide,
she told the hair stylist, “I’m gonna miss my hair,
but it does make me feel so good inside.”

She cried during her haircut,
for she always prized her long hair,
but believed:
“The manner of giving,
is worth more than the gift.”
Giving what cannot be taken,
would be giving as the angels give.

Hannah mailed her braid to Locks of Love,
providing a vacuum seal to her hairpiece,
so Angela wouldn’t fell insecure,
losing it during swimming or showering,
such acts of human kindness,
are composed in silver bell soliloquies,
which even the giver can never hear,
because giving and then not feeling you have given,
is the purest way of giving.

Angela woke up early the day before Christmas,
to the chanting of children outside in the snow,
she could see all her classmates,
looking out of her bedroom window,
her mother knocked on her door,
when she answered, she couldn’t believe what she had seen,
Hannah hugged her, said “Merry Christmas!”,
offering her a gift unlike any she had ever received.

They ran outside together,
to make snow angels on her front lawn,
with her classmates,
knowing ‘The manner of giving,
is worth more than the gift.”
Giving what cannot be taken,
would be giving as the angels give.

…giving as the angels give…

It is, dear Noah! What a wonderful piece you offer here, it fits perfectly well into the Christmas atmosphere.

You write with your golden heart and you leave a trace of it within our own.

Merry Christmas, golden boy.
Love,
Margherita

Enjoyed the thoughts and information Noah...too bad they can't save the hair when soldiers go through basic training...there's lots of it that ends up on the floor...some would cut their hair short in anticipation but some would come in with shoulder length hair, determined to wear it long until the last possible moment...I'm thinking way back for this...James
