Death of Your World
By Klover

When I stumbled through the forest
Philosopher thoughts clouding my mind
I tripped and collapse into a clearing
Beauty and Terror, I unknowably discovered,

A woman knelt on a decaying stump
Hair like fresh shoots, vivid in its color,
Fingers tiny and delicate sink into rotting wood

Her skin was burnt through, or covered in sores
Breath shallow and wheezy, clogged with tar and oil
Her body was warm, climbing higher and higher
Welded eyelids made by flickering factory fires

Her mouth, once smooth and free, cracked open
Flakes of dying flesh fell down, as she whispered final words
A voice that once held power like waves, bubbled up to me,

“I am the last of defenders,
Those who watched this place,
Though I love all of life,
You have torn me asunder,
My tools were ones you fear and love
Plague and fire to purge away the hate
Rain and soil, to give fruit for joy
My name is Nature, Terra or Mother,
Look ye, onto my works and become awed
Look, onto my dying self, and weep a thousand tears.”

Her final words seemed to float into the air,
My eyes rich with what she commanded,
Salty rivers cross the plains, as my hands reached forward
I felt the rot, the boils, as I touched her tortured eyes.

With some force she opened them,
And stared me down to my soul
A smile on her lips as she fell onto my
Dead and gone, crumbling into the wind.,

Wise and sad words passed my lips,
As I felt existence fade away
Cut the Tree.
Cut the soul.

This is also a superb 'write!'...

As a 'Universalist' and 'natural philosopher,' I am especially fond of:

"My name is Nature, Terra or Mother,
Look ye, onto my works and become awed
Look, onto my dying self, and weep a thousand tears(!)”

This author might want to read some of my other poems in this 'open'
forum # 41 and/or in 'archived' forum #s: 39 and 40...I have been attempting
to express similar 'messages' though in a quieter (possibly less effective) manner.

very serious, long-sustained applause for this 'penning!'
