Where no tyranny is tolerable

0 posted 2007-12-13 08:13 AM

It is night
and I am with Mother in the apartment.
I am still hungry
but there is nothing to eat,
so I am getting ready for bed.
Suddenly I hear the loud male voice
of a stranger in the kitchen.

I feel a chilling fear he is a burglar,

that he wants stuff he saw in the apartment,
and that he is here to terrorize us.
It comes to me he has a gun,
that he will kill me if he sees me.
I hear him yelling
and stomping from room to room.
I decide it is too risky to try telephoning 911
because he might find out and kill me.
I try to hide under the bed
but my body won't fit under the bed.
We are not harmed.
I hear the burglar stomp out,

presumably having taken what he wanted.

I think we should go to the police station.  Amelia drives up and we have to go.
There is only enough time to put on one shoe,
so I have to walk by hopping on one foot while holding the shoeless one in the air.
I think we should go to the police station.

I'm only wearing one shoe.
After quite a bit of driving around,
I say we
need to go to the police station,
but the two jabbering women don't pay me any attention.
I keep repeating we need to go to the police station
so they can describe the burglar.
Finally Mother opens the door on my side
as a way of frightening me into shutting up.
I grab the upholstery as the car careens and swings precariously.
Amelia tells Mother
that is too dangerous and close the door.

Very bad nightmare, Jaime, or even worse, if it is the memory of a real event! Please stay safe....
