LIVES IN THE BALANCE ( The End Of The Innocents)

The energy of the innocents
Breaks all the conventional rules
And it confounds common sense
That we should be lead by fools

The politicians of the day
Assume that they know best
But the price that must be paid
Is picked up by the rest

Everyday they make decisions
That  affects both you & I
And with random precision
Tell you what not why

How the Hell can they justify
The fortunes spent on defence
Whilst all around them people die
It does not make any sense

The fat cats in their Limousines
Fly in first class seats
Whilst children destined not to reach their teens
Are dying in the streets

It is the height of hypocrisy
And they do it in my name
Although the choice is not down to me
I must take the blame

Because everybody has the choice
To turn their back
Or raise their voice

When the time comes to be counted
Which side of the fence will you stand
Will you have the face, to take your place
Or pretend you did not understand?

I could say I was too busy
And did not realize the cost
But I am ashamed to admit it was partly down to me
That innocent lives were lost

I will not try to apportion blame
Or say it was not up to me
For they did it in my name
And this I could plainly see

The consequences of their actions
Shall be written in the pages of History
And the result of inadequate reaction
Is purely down to me

So excuses I will not make
I accept full responsibility
For our fearless leaders inhumane mistakes
I am afraid must rest squarely with me.

Yes, I agree! Your ponderings are wise. Maybe you will induce others too to raise their voice and the critical mass will grow and humanity will awaken to love. It does happen, even if slowly.

Thank you for this thought provoking piece.

Margherita & Arctic, thank you for the kind words, they are much appreciated. As the Beatles famously once said 'All you need is love' Unfortunately, the powers that be seem to think they can insulate themselves by filling their bank accounts with as much money as they can. I am far richer than they could ever hope to be, I may not be able to fly 1st class & stay in a luxury suite, but I am far richer than they could ever hope to be for I have experienced the unrequited love of my daughter. It saddens me think that she too will never experience mankind realising the folly of worshipping money over the pricelessness of something that costs nothing to neither give nor recieve. Love... we would all be better off I think were we to return to the days of bartering.God Bless you both & have a joyous & peacful christmas.  John
