Sometimes poetry sings
of beautiful things
or offers relief
from the pangs of grief.
Simple little poems
can be balms for the aging heart
or tearful laments
when lovers part.
Some offer hopeful solutions
or inspire thinking
that sparks revolution...
again and again.
Perhaps these are the poems
written by real men.

                 Ida Werrett

I wrote this poem in response
to a poem called "Poetry is for the birds,
not real men" on another site.

As a poetry writing man, I aprove this poem.

That sounds like the comment of a jealous man who lost his love to a poet. I started writing poetry to get girls to pay attention to me. It worked well enough, I am still doing it.

Type II poet. Its worth the work.

I do like this poem.

I think they qualify as real men -- as long as they do not write poems and eat quiche at the same time.

Real men have it all, tenderness and force, I would say.

Dear Ida, you say it so well.

I most certainly believe that kind of 'poetry' to be the work of 'real men!'...

well done 'write!'

The title made me laugh.  The text made me smile.  Thanks.

I can not count the number of times I have been told real men don't write (or read)poetry!
