I am sassy.

I am from rock gardens and olive trees,
near boulders thrusting from endless seas,
orchards and vines that stretch for miles
shaking quaking undulating valleys
'neath purple mountains of majesty.

I am the seed of a talk-back tree,
whose branches and leaves scream

"Don't tread on me!"

Though too many branches have broken
'neath the weight of world sorrows,
the seeds have been plentiful,
and solid bedrock nurtures.

I am from rock gardens and olive trees,
born to protect silent wildflowers
seeking shelter and shade
from a sweltering sun
and the raging seas.

I am sassy.

Good morning, Kacy! It was my hope that you would rise to meet Patricia's challenge! ~ and you did ~ splendidly!

I knew that I would enjoy it!

Are you of Greek heritage?

I smiled all the while I was reading!

Loving hug,

LOL, no, Linda, no Greek (as far as I know!)
I grew up in California, a mongrel mix of
Dutch/Irish/German/Scotch/English.
We had olive trees and lots of rocks,
about a half hour drive to Ventura/Channel Islands and Santa Monica/Malibu.
One of my ancestors signed the Declaration of Independence,
and I've been voicing my rights since the minute I was born.
Mom called me 'sassy brat'
I changed it to 'sassy kat'
then abbreviated it to 'sassy'

Oh, excellent!  The bedrock shows, my friend.  You are grounded and strong.  And what more could anyone ask to be?

"One of my ancestors signed the Declaration of Independence,"

~ VERY impressive!

"Dutch/Irish/German/Scotch/English."

~ Me too! But I am predominantly of Scottish descent ~ with a little bit of Swiss (chocolate) thrown in to sweeten the mix! lol

Love to you, dear native Californian!

Kacy....Not afraid to speak your strong voice of care for earth and it's people, must be the meaning of "sassy".  I read California all over this.

Enjoyed your words greatly, dear Kacy.

You are an inspiration, always.

Very nice response to the ‘poetic challenge!’

I am especially fond of:

“I am from rock gardens and olive trees,
near boulders thrusting from endless seas,
orchards and vines that stretch for miles
…quaking undulating valleys
'neath purple mountains of majesty(!)”

It is always grandly refreshing to see a
very intelligent, perceptive, proudly
independent, resilient woman express her
core/formative influences so finely and effectively!

Serious, sustained applause!

Your right Patricia... If it takes a sassy poet to write like this, I think we need alot more Sas around here.

"I am the seed of a talk-back tree,"

I WANT THAT LINE.

Hon? Your spirit shows through all you do.

I don't see how it could not.

A California girl. I should have known. I can feel the California spirit here.
Enjoyed your self portrait. We need more "sassy" women to keep order in this world.
