Haled From the Highlands
by Linda L. Dowd

My ancestors haled from the Highlands.
I was borne from tall, hardy stock.
The writers and poets among them,
wrote of the tors, the burns, and the lochs.

It was back in the eighteen hundreds,
when they sailed across ocean blue.
And settled in the new country ~ Canada,
where cattle and crops, they grew.

They expressed their love for the country,
thru' their paintbrushes, fiddles, and pens.
Their works have come down generations,
and are treasured family gems.

They were spirited, God-loving people.
They worked hard ~ but knew how to play.
They lived their lives to the fullest,
and gave up their thanks each day.

I am blessed with the gifts of my forebears,
Their rich history is a part of my own.
My heart beats to the pipes of the Highlands,
and Scotland is now calling me home.

My ancestors haled from the Highlands,
I was borne from tall, hardy stock.
The writers and poets among them,
wrote of the tors, the burns, and the lochs.

.

Very very nice!  I like the circular form.  I especially like the fact that you have mementos from former generations.  I wish I did.

aziza ~

Thanks, A! My first poem for this challenge spoke of my spiritual roots.

I thought I would write my second poem for Patricia's challenge on my family roots.

Hello, dear Ida! My youngest daughter took Scottish dancing lessons and I loved to listen to the bagpipe music playing while she hopped and bopped and twirled about!

Have you ever had a Highland fling?!? lol

Love to you!

Hi, Bruce. Ah, yes, the call of Scotland is strong in we who have her blood in our marrow.

I had a feeling that once you saw the title of my poem, that you might pop in! lol

To Scotland and her highland flings,

"Here I am and there I am;
Sometimes. I dinna ken whaur I am;"

Wonderfully done, this one too!

Since the other night I've had "You take the high road and I take the low road and I'll get there before ye" stuck in my head. And I'm pretty sure it's my revised version   lol I'm part Scottish, Irish, and English.  I'm a mutt!! And haha get this in England there is a village named after us.  And my one ancestor was a High Executioner. You should have seen the look on my ex's face when I told him that! My sister did a family tree that dated back to King John or something.  We don't talk so I don't know the 411 on my history.  But our family crest is a Lion juggling 3 balls...go figure.

Oh duh before I forget it's cool to see what you're all about   Inside the life of An Angel.   It'd make a great TV series.  You work for food? Cos I wouldn't be able to pay much lol.

If at first you don't succeed destroy all the evidence that you tried.

Of course I "work for food" ~ Scots love to eat! Mind you, I think I'd pass on the haggis!

So you have an ancestor who was a High Executioner! I trust that your cellular memory has forgotten! lol

Loved your reply!

Gosh, I know what you mean about getting a song stuck in your head! I often wonder how singers handle that!

Giving you a warm, highland hug,

Linda
