Morning Light

Morning light is always the most painful.
Almost, that is.
Because night is the worst.
Night is when it all shuts down,
gets quiet,
and the aloneness of being by yourself
is excruciatingly screaming
in that vacant space she left
at the center of your soul.
But morning light is always the most painful.
It’s then you have to open your eyes
and realize the prayers you threw to Him,
were not just a dream.
Morning light is when you open your eyes
and see the emptiness beside you in bed;
hear the lack of her moving about,
and breathe air without the aroma of the coffee
she used to make.
Morning light is when her perfume
no longer lingers, a pillow replaces her smile,
and the bed is colder than it’s possible to be.
Morning light is always the most painful;
because it’s then,
you have to prepare for the night.

You have a fan in me.

And I am so glad that this is NOT about you - it would be too painful to consider.

Truly a haunting and beautiful poem.

So many poems have been written about great it is to greet the light in the arms of one you love... You write the other side of that story and do so superbly!

I loved it all,
especially "...hear the lack of her moving about..."
pretty powerful stuff, my friend.
