My ship set sail at sunset,
a dismal time to go; and alone,
I sailed into the dusk, in evening's somber
glow. I heard the engines revving as your plane
prepared its flight; we departed both together, though
separate that night. For you flew into the future as
I fell into the past; immersed in memories of you,
my ship rigged at half mast. And all my
dreams slid silent toward horizon's
dimming shore, in that haunting
quiet night where I could
never see you more.

Rosemary

Parting.  The word itself has so much more meaning.  It considers all the time together as well.  What it really means is, no longer together.  A poignant poem, as yours always are.

You have been missed, kind lady. And you took a subject that I have grappled with so clumsily too many times, and pen it so elegantly too. I smile and shake my head.

Yes, you have been missed.

Lovely to read you again. Be well, sweet lady.

Just the one worry for me not that I am a "Jolly Tar"

How do you set a sail at half mast?

I thought that refered to flags and sails were.....reefed?

AhDearLady~
You make poetry reading a pure pleasure~

Time and again I've thought of this one today~

There is a uniqueness to your poetic voice~

.....Shakespeare was only half-right; it is such sorrow, but the sweetness eludes....maybe when you're fourteen and playing at Juliet, but any other time, no....and no again.

My Darling,

Perhaps the twins will one day read the many words you've written for them... "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy..." (John 10:10a) I'm not a prophet but I can tell you, You will see them again... one day... I know...

So much love, dale
