The Moon Undressed

I didn't miss seeing the moon
dressed in fog surrounding the trees,
then pulled to earth with ease.

In the room, I knew it by name
from the color on the walls
that were the same,
and the sleepy smile he made,
wrapped in perfect crumpled sheets,
his eyes closed tight,

asking ... "Is there a full moon tonight?"

I left the warm to find the hole
that looks into the place
where magic makes love
to the earth's still things, dirt bound.

The sky was muted silver,
(soft shutters almost closed),
a feather of an eyelash,
down in softened bloom of rose
made dusty lavender.

There, the dark was cast aside
by the pale shiver that fell over me,
tip-toeing barefoot across the damp
to the pond where I could see,
in perfect circle around circle
reflected there with me,
the moon, perfectly undressed.

Yes, there is a full moon I told his back
as I pulled the cover of his skin over my sleep.

A spectacular picture, this love story, the vision of you and the moon shining together, and then the lovely phrase: "as I pulled the cover of his skin over my sleep." ... Martie, you always, always have such a way with words!

Grand-fine imaging!

I am especially fond of:

“the moon
dressed in fog surrounding the trees,
then pulled to earth with ease..”;

“…the place
where magic makes love
to the earth's still things”;

“down in softened bloom of rose
made dusty lavender”;

Applause!!

I think this should be X rated

“ I left the warm to find the hole
that looks into the place
where magic makes love
to the earth's still things, dirt bound.”

I think your partner was mooning…..

On the other hand dressed in fog naked in a muted silver sky… I think I need some of whatever you are on….

I did get the drift it was a nice moonlit night and you were happy...

Martie,

   It is so good to read your poetry once again!  Your imagery is marvelous!   I feel I'm outside on that foggy eve, experiencing the mystery and sensuality of the bare elements!  Wonderfully written.  Straight to the library, this will go!

Thanks,

There is poetry, and then there is poetry.....and there is your art, which transcends both. The clarity of spirit you show is sometimes simply astonishing, and it makes me feel as if you're a crystal lamp, simply shining with it.

Heh-heh--I pretty much like this poem, can you tell?
