by matthew c. walker
Dedicated to every officer that has made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Tears of Blue

Tears of blue were fallin'
All the people gathered round
Another hero had fallen
More blood spilled upon the ground

The blue lights they were flashin'
Sirens blaring long and loud
The stetsons they were dashin'
But they couldn't break through the crowd

With a bullet in his chest
He read Miranda rights
And when he was laid to rest
He knew he'd done whats right

But now the flag is folded
Bag pipes moan like they were scolded
Another shield put in the ground
As a mothers cries sound

Another hero has fallen'
More blood spilled upon the ground
As the tears of blue were fallin'
All the people gathered round

the inspiration for it came from a current event i did in my public safety class. The was an officer by the name of Dillon Stewart who was shot in a car chase underneath his arm where the vest doesnt protect him. he finished the arrest and later died in the hospital because the bullet struck his heart

Matthew,

I am a fan of all officers, whether civilian or military [those that serve, I should say.] We owe them, possibly you...a distinct loyalty for following the code of the service.

Thank you for sharing this moving poem.

thank you very much, i would encourage you to share that with the next officer you meet. I feel they are thanked to little for the job they do, as well as members of the other emergency services

Matthew, a compassionate and exceptionally moving write.

Several members of my family have been in law enforcement and over the years have worked their way up the ranks.

In their early years of serving and protecting, their injuries were many. My brother has been stabbed in the line of duty (survived with only scars remaining from that   almost deadly encounter), my husband had several bones broken, my father, my uncle, my cousin, my great uncle ~ all have had some form of injury ~ the list goes on.

Yes, it is unbearably sad and tragic when any of the men and woman end up paying the ultimate price for laying their lives on the line to protect the public.

A very moving first post.

Giving you a warm, welcoming pip hug,

EA

Sunshine said it all for me, my friend...I really don't have heros, per se, but if I just had to pick some...no doubt it would be from their side of the fence.

great words...
