Music: Sacred Ground by David R. Maracle
from the album “Spirit Flutes”

Tribal Song
by Linda L. Dowd

Old tales are spun thru' story-teller weaving,
They speak of their peoples ~ of their triumphs and grieving.
A history steeped in their ancestral cultures,
~ Of the bones that were broken ~ and picked by the vultures.

Nations of natives lost their proud ways of living,
~ And their heritage lands that forever, were giving.
Noble nations dispersed ~ and with the pain of disbanding,
Their spirits were broken ~ with no understanding.

An august peoples ~ once brimming with pride,
Were pillaged ~ then scattered, across country wide.
The night echoes songs of their glorious past,
~ and of the fall of their nations ~ and their final out cast.

~ * ~

Soughing winds still carry their sad tribal song,
Yet these proud spirit voices will forever be strong.

"Their spirits were broken ~ with no understanding"

Sometimes it's hard to read or go back into history and learn of the path of our past.

Alway a good read from you, Linda.

Gumpy ~

Hello, my fellow Canadian! I swear that I must have been a native North American Indian in a past life! Since a child, I have been interested in their culture, their legends, their stories, their plights, ~ and the spirit of these proud peoples. I would search for Indian artifacts even at the tender age of 9. I visited reservations, battle sites, memorials and read hundreds of books. ~ From "Sacajawea" to "The Shaman's Daughter".

I was privileged to have friends from the reservations in northern Ontario where I once lived. I learned a great deal from them.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply.

Love & Native Light,
EA

Naked One ~

I am having difficulty writing this reply. Our precious little cat named "Angel" has just leapt up on my desk is in now lying across my forearms! lol She is purring so softly, that I daresn't disturb her.

When my daughter (whom I have always called "Angel") adopted her, she did not know her name until she was signing the adoption papers at the animal shelter.

Getting back to your comments, I totally concur.

Thank you for stopping by and for your kind words regarding my poetry, Dear M.

Love & Native Light,

Linda

Goddess ~

Hi, Michelle! Thank you for your wonderful response!

I have immersed myself in native culture for most of my life. Yes, "they are beautiful people".

I have studied many of their healing ways, as well ~ reflexology, meditation, crystals, botanicals, hands-on-healing etc.

I also commune with nature ~ and spirits!
