At War In Winter

hands freeze fast
tongue curses Garand’s device
unable to let it go

cold and fear
fill body
defeat spirit

we face
two opponents
one goal

you fire first
I return volley

and am amazed
how your blood
reddens the snow too

John Garand designed one of the weapons, the M1 Garand, that was used in WWII.

I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S

Yes, the blood of a soldier is red regardless of the skin or uniform he is in.

Ruth,

Sometimes I can't find the words.
I just feel.
