Menopausal Mamma
by Linda L. Dowd

Emotions keep on bubbling up,
~ Giving rise to mass confusion.
I can't discern what they are,
Or what’s real or delusion

I feel the need to write them down,
But I don’t know where to start.
~ I doubt my discombobulation,
I could adequately impart.

I have moments of elation,
Then I slip in to a funk.
Before I can say “menopause”
~ There’s more junk in my trunk!

I awake with good intentions,
To be the best that I can be.
But I'm a creature of bad habits,
And I'm failing miserably!

The icing on my fruitcake,
Is to see my own reflection.
~ Plastic surgery gone awry,
From botched botox injection!

My smile once, was beautiful,
Now it’s stretched across my face!
The skin’s been drawn ‘n quartered,
And tucked and pinned in place!

Miss Clairol is a faithful friend,
She covers all my grays.
Then streaks my hair with highlights,
Of "golden, sunny rays". (Sheesh!)

My memory’s non-existent,
I am always in a fuddle.
I never know what’s going on,
As I wander in a muddle.

The lines 'n wrinkles 'round my eyes,
Have been zapped and planed away.
But now my peepers cannot close!
~ They’re open night and day!

I have oodles of creams ‘n lotions,
To stop the aging of my skin.
I pour them on from head to toe,
~ and add some extra under chin!

I bend ‘n stretch and twist ‘n turn,
In my “Battle of the Bulge”.
But after burning calories
~ In some chocolate, I indulge!

~*~
I am not aging gracefully,
In fact, I’m just a mess.
I might as well grow old and gray,
And put an end to all this stress!

.

Dear Linda Angelo, you are truly unique! This made me smile, thank you! I think Angels like you don't need any of those things ... you are just pure radiance, but then you know!
The up and downs of the mood, yes that sounds familiar!

quote:

I have moments of pure elation,
Then I slip in to a funk.
Before I can say “menopause”
~ There’s more junk in my trunk!

Oh!!
Smiles and hugs!

Who was that lady you were telling us about

Linda, I'm sure it wasn't you because your smile looks pretty good to me and I just couldn't imagine you in a muddle. Great poem dear Linda but about someone else.
Have a great day.

Well, so far so good. My lotions, creams, and potions seem to be working ~ at least for the moment!

~ But tomorrow is another day! And as the saying goes, "Another day, another wrinkle!" ~ or is that "another dollar"?!? If I had my choice, I'd prefer the latter! lol

Giggles at your poem!

I am 62 and immensely proud of it.  I have grey hair (and love being grey), have better health than all the people I know put together.  I have the bones of a 20-year old (so said the doctor and nurses when they saw an X-ray of an arm I broke in 2002).  Even though I seldom remember to (or can afford to) eat, I always have the energy of a dozen 20-year olds - I don't see why I should walk when I can literally run.  I get where I am going much faster that way.

When I was 58, a man joined the company and dared to be older than me (by 7 whole years - what a cheek!).  I punished him by declaring him 57 forever!

I love the word "old" (except when used for my animals - they are "mature") and don't see "old" as derogatory at all.  To me, it implies wisdom and experience and a mind full of treasures.  I guess I am just VERY strange and VERY different from most other people!  Hee hee!

"Old" Wise One

Hello, Owl! I'm glad my poem gave you a giggle or two!

"I love the word "old" (except when used for my animals - they are "mature") and don't see "old" as derogatory at all.  To me, it implies wisdom and experience and a mind full of treasures."

~ I totally concur!

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts ~ and the wisdom of your age! lol

It's so confusing, ain't it?

Sometimes, when I'm really on a roll, I think that men made up the menopause issue, preferring to think that their wives/women/whatever had simply lost their minds, instead of perhaps, they just lost their ability to bite their tongues!

Oh yeah, all that long-suffering patience.

All those years of, "No, really, sweetie, it's okay."

EVERYTHING I WANTED TO SAY BUT DIDN'T.

It's all comin' out NOW, ain't it, Bud?

Oh my...I tell my husband:

BE NICE TO THEM WHO COOK YOUR FOOD.

*glare*

and laughing, now why am I yelling at you?

lawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwsy....

Save the last car on the rollercoaster for me, Missy!

LOL.. all those creams and lotions...I need a magic potion.

Men become distinguished as their hair goes gray but this is what my granddaughter had to say as she peered intently at me one night, "Gramma, did you know you're gettin' blonder by the minute?"   ..and bear it.

well miss lindalovely, you made me giggle again! I love this!  I've just realized that I'm officially growing old. An older lady called me ma'am in the store the other day, not "honey" or "sweetie" like I'm used to *sighs dramatically*

I've just started finding gray invaders hiding amongst all the brunette locks, and actually freaked out a bit.

My mother didn't start getting gray until her late 40s (I called to ask her, a bit hysterically, when I found the last one), and i'm only just past the mid-30 mark.  Every time I find a new one, I go smack the male that I'm blaming for them .. it doesn't make them go away, but it gives me some sense of satisfaction at least hehe

(I also get a sick satisfaction from the fact that he's the same age and is under a full scale attack from the gray invaders)

I may grow old, but I refuse to grow up!

I've been blessed in the young jeans department  ~ oops! That should read young "GENES" department, but I suppose they're beginning to wear out! ~ sad puppy dog face, here.

Your cracked me up with that smackaroo comment! lol

"I may grow old, but I refuse to grow up!"

~ Right on, sister! Moi aussi! ~ Me too!

You're as young as you feel. A youthful spirit keeps you young! I have a year or two   on you, but I often feel as though I am in my 20s. ~ But then there are those days when I feel... not in my 20s lol
