Southern Accents

in the fall of my childhood
leaves gathered on the ground
from a gray shed by the dog pen
rakes and bushel baskets appeared
cinnamon apple rolled from windows
as sauce, butter and cider slowly
churned from a busy kitchen
ponytailed brown sweatered keds
softly rustled in leaf mountains
little by little rows were formed
on asphalt to be adult lit watched
air thick with oak and pecan smoke
pours even now through my memories
I write it so I won’t forget

"no darkness has ever been deep enough to extinguish my personal knowledge of love"  Anne Rice

because I wanted more...

and I know you know about the "lovebug" phenomenon too!

(We just got through that season here.)

Love you twice!
