I remember looking out on winter
Through a frosty window pane
On a world of white lace and diamonds
As lady winter spread the skirts
Of her beautiful gown o'er the earth;
Covering up the ugliness
Of shabby apartment buildings
and old, used cars.

From the window I saw
Time worn, wooden bridges
Spanning narrow, winding ditches.

Soon the children would gather
In our tattered winter clothes
To play on the ice.
On frozen irrigation ditches
Sewn into the snow like silver stitches.
Weaving a tapestry of memories
That will last for as long as I live.

For now that I am older,
The snow seems so much colder
And the irrigation ditches
Just irrgate the fields.

a pleasant and interesting 'slice of life'
impression!

I am especially fond of the image of:

"frozen....ditches
Sewn into the snow like silver stitches."

AND:

"looking out on winter
Through a frosty window pane
On a world of white lace and diamonds
As lady winter spread the skirts
Of her beautiful gown o'er the earth;
Covering up the ugliness(!)"

serious applause for this 'write!'

"Weaving a tapestry of memories
That will last for as long as I live."

~ And you wove those memories beautifully into this poem.

This nostalgic write brought back a few poignant memories of my own.

May the coming winter find you making warm memories for your tomorrows.

Lovely writing and thoughts, dear Ida.

Very nice.
Haven't had a big snow here in Alabama in years. After reading this I hope one comes this winter.
