How do I block my ears
to love’s sweet melody
woven in the fabric of
ancient history?

How do I close my mind
to the pictures of you
coming like the sunset
into sky’s awesome blue?

How do I numb my flesh
to the shivers of delight
creeping as if real
in the silence of insight?

How do I cut adrift
from the likeness of you
next to me unseen
in all I think and do?

And how can I live
with so much to hide?

I don't know if I would ever want those thoughts to disappear...better to have known them/felt them than not.

Hi JL - Oh, I was hoping for a Dr Phil type answer but I guess at the end of the day we are our own best advisors - just got to believe that we are.

M - I didn't mention that along with the package comes a severe sense of isolation which persists until one can file it away into the "have had" compartment.  I don't think I have one of those.

Thanks to both of your for the read.  Much appreciated.

OK Helen, you asked for it!
Here’s my Dr. Phil:

The best way to block your ears is with your fingers spread wide apart.
It never hurts to listen…
A closed mind is a dangerous mind; to one’s self only, and if someone has made that type of impression on you further investigation is warranted, is it not?
Now the flesh is somewhat different in that it may cause emotions more relevant than the conscious mind and intuition, so careful consideration is needed here.
Reality makes a good bedfellow if being adrift mentally causes visions of something unseen.
Living in a state of hiding may not be the answer to your situation, but dreaming is always good.

Heeheee...
I still think your poem is excellent!!

JL - So now, according to form as witnessed on television, I shall just dab at my eyes and nod my head. I do not know what they do after that which just goes to show that we can never know everything.  Thank you, Dr JL!
