Hearts of Ice

I traced your heart with delicate fingers
Feeling through skin which seemed of steel
Trying to feel the heartbeat of your soul
Or just a tingle of a bit of good
Because sometimes you seemed indifferent.

For once I wanted to walk away with a smile
Knowing that my kisses and passion
Had dreamed your pain away;
Instead I awoke each cold night
Mumbling the words, “Ice Queen”
As a subtle smile creased your sleeping lips…

Lately, I find myself in better spirits
When at last you bid your heart to truth,
Vowing eternal love and happily ever after;
But now, I have found appreciation in another,
Slowly removing her silk blouse in my dreams,
With a smile frozen like my heartbeat.
I have come to enjoy the indifference to good,
And the mumbling across you sleeping lips,
Of, “Ice King”.

Marcel

Such 'indifference' has brought an end to many a relationship.
A well written, poignant heartbeat piece, Keith.
