So many years
have come and gone
that the memory is lost
covered by a blue blanket
tattered and torn in a box of things
where

Did she like cereal on hurried mornings
or bacon and eggs scrambled to hide the runny part
from looking too much like yellow blood
I question my remembering

I've lost her in my own meandering
where I grew up and passed
the telephone
with its yes or no answer
to life or death when

to choose seemed so simple

Had she lived
she would be forty-two years
not 8 not 8 not 8 not 8
twisting in on itself again and again
like candles on a cake-less cake

It's her birthday
but I can't find her
tattered and torn box of things
this Sunday morning
gone

----------
with thoughts of Michelle on her Birthday

This is a touching write. A dead child is frozen in time by our memory. Thank you for posting it.

Obviously a very heart-felt, emotive write
that elicits that sense of the very ‘personal’
as well as provides a fine slice of “everyperson’s-life
dejavu”…pursuant to every type of ‘loss’ that we all
inevitably must face!....

I am especially fond of imagery such as:

“memory is lost
covered by a blue blanket
tattered and torn in a box of things…”

Applause!

Oh this was so beautiful yet so incredibly sad. it touched a nerve with me as I also have young children and can never imagine something like this.

Written from the heart but also so poetic.

My thoughts are with you.

Isn't it strange, how passages
are frozen -

and how sometimes the heart
relieves the mind,
then vice versa...

we only think we forget...

but we really don't.

Not when we were worn
to heart

not ever.

Never gone....never, that you know. She is with you at this moment, will be with you wherever you may be, and with you long after you may be. Always.

....and those things, don't worry, they're only in a safe place that you haven't thought of just yet. If you had to evacuate your home for a brushfire, where would you put them for safekeeping when you returned? That's where they are.

(no runny parts for me either ...)

Oh dear Martie this hurts. The soul bond survives loss of remembered moments, it IS beyond time and venue.
She came from God-Mother, to you earthly Mother and somewhere some time there will be a new opportunity to weave memories.

Love and hugs.

On the 28th I was with my 85-year-old mother for her birthday thanking the All that is All that I had this chance to be with her again.  It was a day of love.... Just hugs, Martie.   ...jo

I am with you here Marti. It is strange the things we do remember. I can not even remember what I ate at home as a teen ager much less Joanne's favorite food, but can remember some things from childhood. What we remember about our children comes to us in bits and pieces. I don't know the why or how but her laugh comes up the most. Joanne would be fify three November 23rd. Wonderful words of love...love is not necessarily remembering every moment, it is acceptance and caring and remembering and missing precious moments...hugs...James

Your sweet rememberances of your daughter, Michelle, always bring tears welling in my eyes.

My sister lost her daughter as a baby, and her son as a teenager and the pain is never gone, however, the bold colours have faded to watercolour memories and are more gentle now.

Happy birthday, Michelle!

Love & hugs to each of you
