JACK O'LANTERN

I carved a pumpkin and named it Jack,
then painted him, a moustache black.
Upon his head, I placed a crown,
and carved a smile ~ up-side down.

His eyes were sad and lacking light,
so in to him, I put candle bright.
He came alive and boomed to me,
“I’m Jack O’Lantern! You set me free!”

His face transformed to grinning beast.
He said, on me ~ he’d like to feast!
I was terrified from head to toe,
as the jack-o-lantern began to grow.

I screamed and tried to run away,
but my two feet were clumps of clay.
Flames leaped out and singed my clothes.
The horrid smell burnt my nose.

Its flaming mouth was gaping wide.
I feared that I would soon be fried.
I shuddered when it growled at me,
then ran and hid behind oak tree.

With clap of thunder, came the rain.
and Jack O’Lantern writhed in pain.
All remains of the fiery beast,
were left for bats, on which to feast.
